Synopsis
This subject examines the regulation of markets and anti-competitive conduct. It focuses on the restrictive trade practices provisions in Part IV of the Trade Practices Act 1974 (Cth), and the contribution of these provisions to Australia's National Competition Policy. Within this framework, the subject also considers the economic concepts on which the regulatory regime is founded, the role and powers of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, and the remedies and penalties available for contravention of the law.
