Synopsis
This subject aims to instruct students in practical methods of producing documentary projects. Students will gain the ability to create effective and cohesive documentary films as well as learn the cinematic history, social, political, and moral issues connected with documentary filmmaking.
Prior Knowledge
FITV12-220 Video Production 2 is essential and must be taken prior to enrolling in this subject.
Learning Objectives
This course is designed to give students, an introduction to both the creative and practical elements of making a documentary in the commercial marketplace. A suggested bibliography and viewing list will provide the students with an understanding of the history & variety of documentary filmmaking. Through screenings & discussions students will be encouraged to analyse & challenge traditional forms of documentary production. On a practical level, the course will explore the process of making a documentary from concept through development to production and post-production with the intention of completing a five-minute project.
