Synopsis

Clinical Exercise Testing will be examined in two parts, Clinical Exercise Testing I taken in semester 5 of study and Clinical Exercise Testing II taken in semester 6 of study.

Clinical Exercise Testing I will provide a strong theoretical background and extensive practical experiences so the student will be able to conduct any graded exercise test using different modes of exercise in a safe and ethical manner. The importance of patient monitoring and the relevant technology will be carefully considered. Particular attention will be given to the rationale for a graded exercise test, the interpretation of the results from that graded exercise test and the risk management issues with any graded exercise test. The single case study model will be widelyconsidered to reinforce student learning. The interactions of patient medications with the physiological responses during a graded exercise test will be examined in detail.
