Synopsis
This course is designed to familiarize students with the concepts of sustainability, sustainable development and their application to tourism. Different types of sustainable tourism will be discussed. The concept of ecotourism, its definitions, markets, products, certification and controversy will receive detailed consideration.
The theoretical knowledge will be illustrated through a variety of case studies from around the world. The fieldtrips will allow students to gain a rare insight into successful ecotourism business practices and operations and develop an appreciation for their efforts to ensure long term conservation and sustainability.
